Beth, Megan, and Ruth completed a 50 mile Trek to Sandy Creek.  Took us a total of just under 5 hours.  Beautiful ride through rural countryside.  One hour of the return trip was ridden in the rain, but we were mostly dry by th time we finished the journey back. 

We lunched at the Hurds.  I enjoyed seeing Mrs. Hurd's kitchen where all the O.C.C.S. lunches are so lovingly prepared.  I even got to eat with the Hurds and Beth's brother's family.  Mrs. Hurd made German potatoe salad.  Mr. Hurd grilled my favorite, a burnt Hoffman's hot dogs. Yum, yum!  Really and truly, I like them burnt!

Mona told Deb that in Germany cyclists use umbrellas to shield them from the rain as they ride.  Deb and I tried it 5/23 and it works!  We decided that being in second gear and holding the umbrella in your left hand allows one to shift the right gear up or down as needed!

It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.  Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.

Beth rode Carmella to work today!  They arrived two minutes early!

Deb and Suzette passed their 100 mile mark of pedaling, today, as we tricycled south on County route 1! Suzette was adorned with boughs of lilacs cascading from her basket!  We plan celebrating this milestone event at Bev's on Sunday.

While we were biking south on 1A, Beth was the lead, Deb in the middle, Ruth the backdoor, it was so awesome!  Deb was drafting Beth. Ruth was drafting off Deb.  It was exciting to see us cycle in sync all along that corridor!  WWWWWWWWWaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh, Who!!!!!!!!

Bike boxes are a reserved space just for cyclists at intersections. They are marked ahead of the car stop line and behind the crosswalk to improve cyclist visibility. Bike boxes allow cyclists to filter forward and get in front of motorists so they can position themselves correctly for a turn. They're used at intersections with heavy traffic volume (cars and bikes) and frequent turning conflicts.

5/3 Red tailed hawk (South on 57 going towards Minetto)

We tri-cycled, Sat. 5/3 481 to 57 south to Minetto.  Crossed over the bridge blocking the whole west bound lane.  Took a break at the boat launch and then visited the Thorpes.  We returned to the city via 48.  Deb's computer registered 29 mph coming down the Country Club Hill.  Wa-hoo!

Beth forced us all to go to Murdocks.  When we got there, she bought Deb a bike mirror for her birthday and me a pair of biker gloves for my birthday!  Beth and I are really glad Deb has a mirror now, so she can see how far we are behind her! Now, Deb & I are wondering when Beth's birthday is.  Beth wouldn't tell us, so Deb and I will have to do some undercover biker investigating.

Deb survived her first out of the city haul, (OOTCH)!  Bravo!  She had to be especially brave starting down the Country Club Hill where the shoulder of the road was washed away! Today, Sunday, 5/4, she was planning our next  OOTCH, so she's definitely graduated from novice to junior rider!  

Deb received her official biker bag 5/3.  Beth specially designed these bags to be light weight and if you happen to miss seeing us coming you'll definitey NOT miss us going!
